Gas measurements & degas
Gas measurements & degas
Moths, cockroaches, beetles, mites and other vermin: they are the fright of each carrier. Without protective measures, the loads in containers can be prey of these unwanted guests: with large claims as consequence. Many countries prohibit the import of life form that are a threat to the eco system. To prevent these intruders, often certain gases are used. The use of these gasses raises stricter rules and regulations. It must remain save for humans and environment. That is why we assist our customer with so called gas measurements and the degassing of containers in a natural or forced manner.
When a gas measurement?
Customs demand that each container that has a customs check (fyco or physical check), are also checked on the presence of gas. Besides this demand of Customs, we find the safety of your and our colleagues equally important. After all, we want to offer a safe and environmental friendly work environment. Based on this, we monitor all container flows from the originating country to product type. And we check on gasses when legislation or safety calls therefore.
Choosing the most efficient method
Measuring the gas in containers in unavoidable, but that does not mean it has to be inefficient or time consuming. We stand up for the interest of our clients and choose for the most efficient ways. Our goal: preventing delays and keeping costs as low as possible, during and after degassing!
Gas measuring on location
Gas measuring can be done on several locations. Depending on the content and unloading place of the container, we look for the most suitable location. One option is the port area in Rotterdam were the container is disembarked. Is the gas check done in Rotterdam region and is the level of the measuring not acceptable? Then we can transport the container to a suitable location for degassing. This can be done naturally or forced by means of so called ‘degas doors’. Then our partner will measure daily until the right level is reached and the container can go to the unloading location. A physical check by Customs can be done at this location as soon as the correct gas-level is reached. When a container holds hazardous goods (IMO/ADR), the gas measurements always take place in Rotterdam.
Extra service for our warehouse customers
We can offer our warehouse customers from the Brabant region an extra option. Containers arriving through inland waterways (barge) or train at the Barge Terminal in Tilburg can be immediately checked for gas there. When the gas value is too high, the container can be degassed on the spot. Containers arriving by truck at our warehouse are immediately checked for the presence of gas. When high values occur, the container can be degassed at the Barge Terminal. Because of the short distance we can act fast so your shipments are not delayed.
