The Tilburgse Voedselbank Foundation is committed to supporting households in Tilburg and its surroundings that have run into financial difficulties for whatever reason, and therefore can no longer afford to buy food.
Last week Chris Goeverneur (General Manager Sales at MOL Logistics) visited the regional distribution centre of the foundation to drop off some food parcels.
"Especially in this period, it is very important that the Voedselbank continues to have sufficient food. We are therefore very happy that in this way we can make a small contribution to Tilburg's struggling households," said Chris Goeverneur.
What does the Tilburg Food Bank do?
Food that is no longer sold and is still fit for consumption is distributed by the Tilburg Food Bank to households in financial difficulties. Aid agencies and administrators refer these families to the Foundation. The food is made available free of charge by supermarkets and other food suppliers. They work exclusively with unpaid volunteers.
In addition to being a food bank for the municipalities of Tilburg and surroundings, they are also one of the ten national distribution centres of Voedselbanken Nederland. The Foundation serves the region of North Brabant and Zeeland. This means that food offered nationally and regionally by large supermarket chains and other suppliers is first transported to the Tilburg Food Bank. There the food is stored and taken to the food banks in North Brabant and Zeeland. This is necessary to obtain sufficient food and to be able to balance the composition of the food packages. The local food banks also acquire food from local supermarkets and other food shops such as bakeries, butchers and greengrocers.
